In late 2016 the worst happened, but in early 2017 the very best happened. It’s Tito’s Handmade Vodka Redfish Series!
As a lot of you know, our former Secretary of Wildlife & Fisheries, Charlie Melancon, canceled the popular redfish tournament trail, the Louisiana Saltwater Series (LASS). This went down in late 2016 and it was an extremely unpopular move on his part. LASS contributed a lot of tagged redfish for conservation and research purposes as well as promoted recreational fishing.
I couldn’t tell you why he would do such a thing, other than the man hates recreational fishing, conservation and freedom. It’s all besides the point, as that move (as well others) led to his eventual forced resignation. Yay!
But sadly, LASS was still dead and not forecasted to come back. That is when veteran LASS angler Benny Sanchez stepped up to the plate to create a new tournament series. This new series is Tito’s Handmade Vodka Redfish Series. This series is based on tournament angler feedback and fueled by the Tito’s Handmade Vodka brand!
This tournament series is going to be bigger and better than anything before. Here are some perks and changes:
The different slot size means that we are targeting different redfish than the IFA, Rudy’s, Elite Series, etc. This makes tournament fishing more enjoyable!
Best of all, Tito’s Handmade Vodka Redfish Series is a non-profit 501c3 corporation. Proceeds from the tournament are being sent to the Louisiana Sportsman’s Coalition to help them fight for our right to fish as well as the Wish to Fish Foundation, which gets under-privileged kids out on the water and fishing!
In addition to that, there are side car cash prizes, door prizes and more. Some sponsors who have teamed up with Tito’s Handmade Vodka Redfish Series include:
There is also going to be catering by Bosco’s Italian Restaurant and more!
Inshore Nation, this is a redfish tournament trail you won’t want to miss, so be sure to come out to weigh-in even if you are not fishing the event. I will be there and I’d be happy to meet all of ya!
There is a lot more information in the podcast. It’s a great listen and, once you do you will make sure you are at weigh-in.
