Knowing whether or not the Bayou Bienvenue gate is open will determine where you can and cannot fish. Here are three ways to find out.

The temperature has fallen and you want to fish the great opportunities for speckled trout, redfish and more that abound in the Bayou Bienvenue area.

But, after making the drive and launching the boat, you (sadly) discover the gate is closed and your fishing trip is ruined.

Are The Bayou Bienvenue Locks Open Or Closed?

It doesn’t have to be that way and there are ways to know if the Bayou Bienvenue gate is open. Here are three:

Call This Phone Number

First off, you can get the daily update for the Flood Protection Gate Closure Status by calling 504-286-3140.

Upon doing so you will hear a recording that is updated daily, to include the day's date so you know it is current.

Get Text Messages

Secondly, you can text FLOODGATE to 333111 to receive SMS updates on flood gate closures.

Standard rates and all that stuff applies.

Visit Their Website

Sometimes folks like to have this information faster! So, if you haven’t discovered it yet, then let me show you this easy way to know if the Bayou Bienvenue gate is open.

The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority provides this webpage that is very useful for determining gate closures not only for Bayou Bienvenue but also surrounding gates like Bayou Dupre and Seabrook.

They list closures and openings for the following structures:

  • Seabrook Complex
  • Bayou Bienvenue Lift Gate
  • Bayou Bienvenue Flood Control Structure
  • Bayou Dupre Sector Gate
  • GIWW East Sector Gate
  • Caernarvon Sector Gate

I keep this page bookmarked on my smartphone and laptop so the information is always accessible.

What’s really cool about this webpage is that they also list trends. For example, if the water is predicted to rise in the near future they will notate the gate may close as a result of it.

This makes fishing trip planning that much easier.

If you’re new to inshore fishing, or just looking to understand the “why” when things happen, LAFB Elite is worth the money and time invested into the courses.

The amount of information in the courses is huge.

Also the community is filled with people who mostly have the same goals in mind, so when you ask a question you get good information, not some dude giving you some generic or wrong answers.

My experience was excellent, I found that the knowledge gained in Inshore Fishing 101 is priceless. I found that a lot of the things I thought I knew were not what I thought I knew. This course has expanded my knowledge and has already honed some of my skills.

I am forever grateful for finding LAFB and for joining LAFB Elite.

Devin, I can honestly say there is nothing in this course I dislike.

I made it through the course in 3 days watching all videos and webinars. I live in Greensburg Louisiana and managed to make a run to the Long Rocks to check out the action Wednesday, this within the 3 days it took me to get through 101.

To do everything I've done in the last three days and manage to make it through this course means it had my unconditional attention. Thank you so much for the knowledge!
