E26 – Brandon Carter Loves Big Speckled Trout

Captain Brandon Carter is a veteran inshore angler who has been guiding since he was 21 years old. He is full of passion and has tons of advice, so don't miss this episode!

Brandon Carter is a native of Tickfaw, Louisiana, which is a long haul from Grand Isle and Venice, the waters he grew up fishing for speckled trout and redfish. From the time he was a child he had been fishing those areas. His father pushed him to become the best angler he could possibly be. He did this in one way by teaching him how to throw an Abu Garcia Ambassedeur 5500C, which is a round baitcasting reel and much clumsier compared to today's low-profile reels.

The kicker: Brandon was only 7 years old.

After graduating college Brandon Carter became a full time guide. Being 21 years old he had a lot of time and energy for fishing tournaments and rodeos, winning cash and other high-value prizes. Today he focuses on his charter, Reel Shot Guide Service and his number one concern is customer satisfaction.

Though he loves his baitcasters (and still only uses them today) he affords good equipment for his customers, using Penn Conflict 2500 spinning reels, Medium Power fishing rods and Power Pro Super Slick fishing line. It's his way of stacking the odds in favor of his customers.

During the podcast he can be quoted as saying:

I cannot control the fish, but I can control the effort.

Truer words have not been spoken.

On his worst fishing trip they still caught 100 trout and 20 reds, but it was the worst not because of the fish caught but because of the attitude everyone had. I can personally attest to this and can tell you that the key to success is maintaining an open mind and a positive attitude!
