Good Reasons Why I Think You Will Enjoy Fishing Louisiana's Marsh
I truly love inshore fishing and would love to share my passion with you.
Fishing is more than what it seems
I believe that fishing is more than "just fishing", and having fun on the water is the best way to create memories that last a lifetime.
There's a kind of "sensory overload" one experiences when watching the sun rise over a vast and sprawling marsh, or the feeling when fighting a strong redfish.
Meet the challenge of fishing With a professional new orleans fishing guide
There's also the challenge of "figuring out the fish". In a way, the marsh on any given day is like a giant puzzle we get to solve:
- How are conditions affecting the fish?
- What lures are fish biting on?
- Where can fish be found in the first place?
Since everyday is a new set of conditions and circumstances, no two days of fishing are ever exactly alike.
Rest assured your fishing trip will be a bonafide adventure! Are you ready to go fishing yet?
There's a lOT of water for you to Explore
When you book a fishing charter with me, you aren't going fishing so much as you are escaping to your adventure.
Louisiana's wetlands are vast, and there's tons of room to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
How much exactly? This comparison chart breaks it down:
Fishing Destination | Acreage of Salt Marsh |
---|---|
Chesapeake Bay | 284,000 |
Florida | 500,000 |
Louisiana | 2,500,000 |
Captain Devin (one of my long time fishing buddies and a former New Orleans fishing guide) does a great job of describing how this came to be in this blog post, but here it is in a nutshell:
Why Louisiana has so much marsh to go fishing in
The Mississippi River drains all the land from New York to Montana and, as water flows towards the Gulf of Mexico, sediment is picked up and eventually deposited in what is now the state of Louisiana.
The Mighty Mississippi did this for eons, spreading sediment across Louisiana's coast, building new land to create lagoons, bays and bayous that serve as habitat for a wide range of inshore species:
- trout
- flounder
- redfish
- mullet
- sheepshead
- black drum
- spanish mackerel
- menhaden
- pompano
- and more
Yup, that's a lot of fish! But how much?
There's a LOT of fish For You To catch!
In Louisiana, we don't go fishing, we go catching!
Now, I don't want to jinx a fishing trip before it happens, but there's a reason why license plates around here have "Sportsman's Paradise" embossed on them!
In fact, there's not just one, but several:
Remember how the Mississippi River builds land? Well, she also delivers precious nutrients that build the food chain from the bottom up.
This results in record catches across the board, especially for speckled trout, our most popular fish to catch when people book with a New Orleans fishing guide.
To put this into perspective, the most speckled trout ever landed on the entire eastern seaboard of the United States rarely exceeds five million pounds in a year.
Keep in mind that figure includes every state from Maine to Florida.
Louisiana's limit for managing speckled trout is 5.7 million pounds, meaning that 5.7 million pounds is so low that if we were to reach that level we know something is horribly wrong.
In contrast, Louisiana's very best year for speckled trout saw over 12 million pounds landed by recreational anglers, people like you and me.
we Catch lots of redfish, too!
Redfish are another popular saltwater species people hire a New Orleans fishing guide to go catch.
They're tough and incredibly strong for their size, putting up one heck of a fight!
If you're looking for a challenge, then give me a shout to book your redfish fishing charter.
What does all of this mean?
There's plenty of everything for you to experience one helluva guided fishing trip! The only thing that there isn't plenty of is time.
Fully Licensed & Insured New Orleans Fishing Guide
Experience is good, and knowing where fish are biting is even better! But there's more to running a successful fishing charter than being able to catch a few.
These are the things you want to consider when booking a fishing guide in the Greater New Orleans area:
Proper Credentials
I am a fully licensed boat captain holding my OUPV, or Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels. It's a notch above what most fishing guides are running with these days, and the only way you can get it is with a lot of experience and time on the water.
This means I know how to safely run the coast of Louisiana, avoiding underwater hazards and shallow water so we get to the honey hole and back without a hitch.
Spacious & Comfortable Fishing Boat
You don't need sea-legs to enjoy fishing in my Skeeter SX240 bay boat! That's because it features a long length and wide beam, delivering a smooth ride and stable platform.
This way you are comfortable and can focus on making quality casts to biting fish.
It's also powered by a 300hp Yamaha outboard, so we arrive to the best fishing spots first, spending less time running and more time wetting a line.
Quality Fishing Tackle
I only use the best fishing tackle from brand names such as Penn, Owner, PowerPro, Matrix Shad, 4 Horsemen and Daiwa.
Tournament Experience
I fished the Louisiana Saltwater Series for years, finding and catching redfish across the coast of Louisiana. I've landed in the money and won the Grand Isle event in 2016.
I know how to find and catch fish!
Family Friendly
I have my own kids that I take fishing, and know the best way for them to have a positive experience is to be patient and encouraging.
We've created some awesome memories, and my kids love going fishing!
