Sabine River Practice Hat

The G-man, never lacking his sense of humor, offers this unique solution when fishing near Louisiana’s waters.

The Sabine River Practice Hat

Professional bass anglers on the Bassmaster Elite Series recently fished the Sabine River, a body of water sitting on the Louisiana/Texas state border.

Now, I never fished this area, and I’m more of an inshore angler than a basser, but I follow these events closely enough as well as the pros who fish them.

One of them is Gerald Swindle, who is absolutely hilarious. His Instagram is great and it was there I saw this video:

Right now you are one of two people:

  • totally lost
  • laughing your ass off

I'm with you. I about died after watching this (seriously, go follow the G-man on his IG account)

Then you're probably not aware of the water-access problem we have in Louisiana, and what Bassmaster has done about it.

It wasn't long ago they announced their tournaments won't be coming to Louisiana's waters.

So, they were allowed to fish the Texas side, but not the Louisiana side! (Hence the "Sabine River Practice Hat")

Why? Because of our incredibly ridiculous "property rights" that allow individuals and companies to "own" water that would otherwise be legal to navigate and fish in.

That's right.

The kind of bayous, rivers, bays and lagoons you could fish anywhere else in the United States are off-limits to you.

Bassmaster not coming to Louisiana is a big deal!

In case you're not familiar, the Bassmaster Classic (their biggest tournament) brought in over 20 million dollars to the city of Greenville, South Carolina, where it was hosted this year.

Sounds like South Carolina has it together, but that doesn't come a surprise, given how nice their roads are and that their amusement parks are open (and working).

You really need to learn about water access.

It's a lot to explain, and you should really learn about the issue.

You can begin by visiting the Louisiana Sportsmen's Coalition.

Tight lines, y'all!
